Anna

ANNALISE/ANNA SCHACHMATT
Annalise is the daughter of the Sacratus King Ebastalar and Queen Lily. She is a prized child, fawned over and loved by all who encounter her. With her deep red curls and green eyes, her beauty is only matched by her kindness. She falls in love with Dax, but her father gives her hand instead to Caballo.

Anna awakens in a hospital with no clue as to who she is. Because she is believed to be under age and with no one to claim her, she is processed into the system of foster care. She is given the last name of Schachmatt after a childhood friend of her case worker. Anna discovers her talent for dancing, and finds her independence through it.

Shachmatt is German for checkmate.

The Sacratus

Sacratus is Latin for the holy.

King Ebastalar

The king of the Sacratus kingdom. Ebastalar has red hair and green eyes, the source of Anna's unique coloring. He is an imposing figure, but kind and good.

Ebastalar is an anagram of the word alabaster.

Queen Lily

The queen of the Sacratus kingdom. Lily has long, honey-blonde hair and blue eyes. She is the source of Anna's beauty. She is strong in her faith, believing in the Master.

Caballo

Caballo is the king's knight. He has dark brown hair and matching eyes, but after Annalise disappears, the color begins to drain from him. His hair turns blond, and his eyes become colorless. While Caballo serves Ebastalar in name and rank, his heart lies with Corryn, the Tenebris queen.

Caballo is Spanish for horse.

DAX
Dax is the queen's knight. He is honorable and duty-bound. He has sandy blond hair and blue eyes. He is in love with Annalise.

Audax is Latin for bold.

Etalon is French for stallion.

Eveque is French for bishop.

The queen of the Tenebris kingdom. Corryn has black hair, worn in a severe knot on the back of her head. Her eyes are frightening - deep blue pupils, ice blue irises ringed in the same blue as her pupils. She contains a deadly secret.

Corryn is Welsh for spider.

Semental is the queen's knight. He is arrogant and ready for a fight.
