Something New

I have a new project I've been working on, and I'm very excited about it! Not just because it's so amazingly cool, but because it's happening in an entirely different way than I'm used to. And because my writing was at a bit of a standstill. I needed something new and fresh to help me get out of my non-writing rut.

I'd love to tell you more about this project, but I'm going to keep it under wraps for now. I will tell you it's a young adult fantasy that's this crazy mix of Doctor Who and Indiana Jones. The idea came up last year as I strolled through Bancroft Park in Old Colorado City during a Farmers' Market. It's been in my head, but not on the page...until a couple weeks ago.

I normally write out of order. I write the scenes that are on my mind, then link them together appropriately. But not this one! This one is coming to me in a chronological order. I haven't outlined anything. I haven't plotted anything. I just sit down and write. And my poor characters. Things just get worse and worse for them. But I know the resolution is coming, so I'm happy for them. In the end, anyway.

The word count is currently just over 15,000. Let me get a little further down the line, and I'll share more with you about the characters (love them!) and the plot (adventure! excitement!). I know you'll enjoy reading this one as much as I'm enjoying writing it.
