No Place Like...
I have quite the story to tell, and I am most excited about it. We had an amazing last few months. I've kept rather quiet about it. Until now. It's time to share!
We've lived in an apartment for the last year and a half. It's been a lovely place to live. The complex is nice and clean. We even have a double garage. Living in Colorado, that's a must. But we live on the top floor, and with three young kids, that's just tough on everyone involved. Rent is fairly high, so we felt like we were just throwing money away.
I felt stuck.
One sunny summer Sunday, we sat in our normal pew at church. This lady approached the couple in front of us to tell them she and her husband were moving and they were looking to sell their house. She gave the price, and I scoffed. I wrote a note to my husband, saying that there would be no way we could ever afford anything like that.
He took that to mean, "Why don't you go talk with her about that?" And that afternoon, he went to look at the house.
I immediately dismissed the entire notion. The whole thing was impossible. Crazy. Laughable. And yet, a couple days later, I found myself standing in the living room of this house.
When my husband got in touch with the mortgage company, I thought for certain the whole venture would be over. When he contacted a realtor, I figured we'd get to a certain point and the rug would be pulled out from under us. When we received the news that the underwriters approved our loan request, I was just waiting for something to come crashing down.
Yet this afternoon, we are signing the final closing papers. The house is ours.
This isn't the end of the story, though. The previous owners of the house don't normally attend the church service they did that Sunday. Circumstances drove them to go to a later service that day. The man was also a co-worker of mine. And through this experience, we've become friends. In fact, they walked us through the house to introduce us to all its nuances.
So what's my point? God orchestrated this entire thing. I stand amazed, much like Sarah must have felt when she laughed at what God promised to do. She knew having a baby at her age was impossible. But God came through.
My verse-of-the-day email today read, "Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears." (2 Samuel 7:22 ESV) To God be the glory. Soli Deo Gloria!
