This post is for any aspiring writers out there. And also to shed some light on my adventure in publishing. So far, it's been really amazing! It's exciting to tell people that I am an author! But there's also a major truth to be known.
Writing a book does not make you rich. If you think you're going to pour your heart and soul into 300 hundred pages, sell the manuscript to a publisher, and laugh your way to the bank, you best find a new endeavor. First of all, creating the story and crafting the words is a lot of hard work. Selling it - even harder. It's quite difficult to get your foot in the door. I'm still trying, and I have a published book! And now, to talk dough. Unless you're a New York Times best-selling author, you probably won't make a whole lot. And what you do make, you re-invest in buying more books to sell, attending conferences, and marketing. While I wish I could give away books to everyone around me, I simply can't afford to! Even those close to me have had to pay for their books. Of course, I am considered a self-published author, but I've heard similar things from traditionally published authors. So all that to say...don't get into the book business to make money. Do it for your heart. That's what makes it worthwhile.
